Hallo von Wien.....It is day 3 on my adventure so here is the update from the last 2 days.
On Thursday our host family sent there son Lorenz to pick us up. He was right on time so we got lucky in being the 1st 2 to leave. We arrived at our home about 30 mins. later to the shock of a 2 story house with a basement. We were met at the door by our new mom and dad and their daughter. They are by far the cutest people on the face of the planet. They are so warm and sweet. Megan and I have the entire basement, a walk in closet and a 2nd for coats and dresses. We have a kitchen and bathroom and also a washer and we hang dry our clothes in the garden.
When you enter the gate from the street you are overwhelmed by a smell of fresh flowers. Their entire backyard is like a better version of the botanical garden it is so pretty it is kinda mind blowing to think that is our backyard for the next few months.
Our family is not members but as they say "they are used to hosting mormons." Dad..Lorenz Sr. has tumors in 3 vertibre in his back (sorry about the sp) and is going thru treatment to try and kick it. Becuase of this mom and dad are gone alot at the doc. Which leaves their 20yr old daughter Frani to put up with me and megan at breakfast. She is very patient and sweet so it is ok.
The 2nd day Frani made us a small traditional breakfast and it was great then we got the U-Ban their version of the subway to go to orientation. That of course was boring as we were all still tired and jet-lagged. After that we went to the farmers market and got lunch. And yes I ordered my own and did it right to my shock. We then took a breif walking tour of the down-town shopping district. Got a brief look at St. Stephans Cathedral. It was breath taking. We then took the U-Ban to Prof. McFarlands for dinner and we each got a cell phone. When done Megan and I went for a walk in 9th district which we had never been before and got lost....but we were able to ask for directions and to understand the replies. it pretty much made the day a great one. lol
We did get home about 35mins later cause we live on the direct other side of Vienna in the 14th district, and I got the best gummies ever and a coke which is good but nothing like home. We then stayed up till 12:30ish and played German pictionary.
Today we got up ready to play, we headed to the Flomart which is their flee market and shopped and got bread and brownies for breakfast. Then we spent some time setting up our cell phones and headed back to St. Stephans Cathedral. We went inside and looked around and are planning on going to the top of the tower for the view, going up all 337 steps. The rain started to come down fairly hard so we headed back home to dry off and rest. After the weather cleared we went for some light grocery shopping so we could eat on Sunday. Everything here is closed on Sunday for the most part and tons of things are close on Sat. as well, such as banks, shops, diners etc...We found some fun places to take a couple cute pics then back to the U-Ban to go home.
We got home and wanted to cook the egg-rolls we had bought to find we only had a hot plate type thing so me being the smart cookie I am, wrapped it in tin foil and cooked them that way it took some time but worked out in the end..hahaha
Today we finally got a glimpse of some hotties done Vienna style. So far only about 3 but we hold high hopes for church 2mro. Monday school starts....which I'm sure will be fun...not! but whatever.
Like I said not great stuff but an update is an update. Oh yeah yesterday we were speaking english when we were lost, and this grumpy old man sitting on a bench we passed was like "ahh americans" lol it was so funny. And just for Chap, the drivers here even put you to shame the streets are way skinny and they are crazy!
Oh yes and today on the U-Ban I translated for an old german lady and a young couple that spoke english...it was way cool. Also a funny the host family thought it was so funny and strange that we are both named megan they have named us megan eins and megan zwei which is one and two
